Vacation

This past week our family has been in New Braunfels, Texas for Neil's family reunion. The week was fraught with danger. On the way there our front tire split in half. I apologize for not documenting that in film. The next night Neil and I were driving into town and crossing the railroad tracks when we heard a disconcerting whistle. Oh yes, my friends, a train was headed right at us and the red and white striped crossing gate was not down! As I am writing this now it is obvious the train did not do us in. Then we shot bows and arrows (not really dangerous) and finally after floating down the river I found a 3 inch scorpion..... IN MY SWIMMING SUIT! By some miracle the evil looking thing did not sting me and upon discovery Neil smashed it into oblivion. There were also some less dangerous events. Neil, Grace, Neil's cousin Stephen and I went to sea world. It was really fun and the boys even got to pet the dolphins. We also found a delicious bakery in town and I had the best custardy cream puff thing ever. And at one of the family programs Neil and I participated in the Newly Wed Game. Sadly, we came in 2nd place to Neil's brother and wife but I don't feel too badly- they have been married for 8 years. Our cabin was right on a lake and there were deer everywhere! Our last night we went to a fabulous German restaurant Oma's Haus. It was sooooo sooooo yummy! I have got to learn to make German potato pancakes.

"Hey boys, do you want to buy me a milk shake?"

Grace goes to Dallas

I was trying to finish up a sewing project this afternoon, but I accidentally bought Satan's thread. I wish it had been clearly labeled "From Lucifer's Loom," I would have been saved some aggravation. It kept breaking and tangling in my sewing machine. So instead of fighting the thread to the death I am blogging. This past weekend Grace and I road tripped it to Dallas with my sister Jill. Jill's friend A was getting married. Sadly A's new husband took one picture with my camera and it became cursed and refused to work the rest of the trip. (I am trying not to hate A's new husband.) So as evidence of my weekend of fun and for your viewing pleasure there is a picture of Baby G chillin' on the hotel bed. Let me just say that bed was the most comfortable bed my back has had the pleasure to grace, three cheers for the Hilton! And the last picture my camera took before the curse upon it came, Jill and A. Oh, and I just found the worst picture ever taken of my off spring, why would I not post that?
UPDATE: The horrible picture has been removed of Grace at the insistence of Grandma Leslie

I think Grace is going through another growth spurt. She fell asleep yesterday at 8pm then woke up at 8:30am only to eat and then go back to sleep until 11:00. And it is now 5:11 and Grace has refused to take any sort of nap. Don't get me wrong I love my daughter but some down time would be nice (aka I'd like to take a shower). Ahhh Little Napoleon beckons.

Is it odd that it is 90 degrees and I am craving corn chowder? Get excited husband because it is cooking in the crock pot as we speak :)

Above is a little project I've been working on,a baby quilt. (Forgive the bad photo skills). Does it look too green to you? Only the top is done, I've been thwarted and cannot continue until I go buy some more thread :( I made one a few weeks ago that was chocolate browns and pinks which I like better so far. This current one is more "groovy."

Story of a Food Snob or How I almost died at my inlaws

I just ate 2 corn dogs for lunch... I am gross!

In other news Neil and I took Grace to meet her Great Grandmother Fitt last weekend. After visiting the rest home we headed over to my in laws for some family time. Earlier that morning I had gone to a body combat class at the gym. I had attended the class 4 other times but Saturday morning there was a different instructor, (some say instructor some say drill sergeant.) Anyway I was right in the middle of the front row and did way more than my recovering back could handle. Later at the in laws I went upstairs to lay down for a bit but when I tried to get up my back rebelled against me, I was stuck on the bed in the secluded guest room! For those of you who have never had a back spasm imagine your muscles being pulled apart while a 300 lb. man jumps on your spine. I tried screaming for help but my cries were in vain. I took a deep breath and proceeded to roll myself off the bed, with a thud, onto the floor. After a few stretches I made it downstairs to civilization but it was a close call.
