Weekend

We had a great Easter weekend, I hope everyone else did too :) Saturday Neil's sister Julie came over and we cooked, played board games, and watched movies all day long. It was really our first relaxing Saturday in weeks! On Sunday I tackled making my very own Easter dinner and luckily the cooking curse has worn off. The ever popular funeral potatoes, salad, strawberries, and apricot glazed ham made up our meal and we had a cheese cake with a hint of lemon and chocolate crust for dessert. The ham turned out great and the recipe was soooo easy!
1/2 cup apricot preserves
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
You mix everything up in a sauce pan and let it reach a simmer, then just dump all the contents of the sauce pan all over the ham and bake it. Yum yum yum!
Next year I need to add rolls to the menu and it will be perfect.
Grace looked darling in a dress from her Aunt Holly and of course I forgot to take a picture, but here is one from this morning. Look at those cute pig tails! Grace finally has enough hair to add another dimension to her look! Sadly Grace would not put down her bottle for her glamour shot and she ripped out the white bows I had lovingly tied on each tail.

And finally here are some pictures of our living room. I'm on the hunt for a large square picture or a giant clock to go high above the mantle- it looks rather naked right now. I found one I really liked but Neil was opposed to it, which surprised me, he is usually a go with the flow kind of guy. What do you think? I realise I would need to choose different accent colors but we are planing on that anyway.
And here is the other side of the living room. We are planning on getting new couches but it is so hard to choose! Any tips on picking a sofa I'll love for years and years?

And finally here is our new table. We realized it was a necessary purchase when within a week two of our old chairs collapsed beneath unsuspecting occupants. I couldn't really get any great pictures of it so just know it looks better in person :)
When Neil and I got married the only furniture we purchased was a desk and a dresser. We had the excellent fortune of getting some great furniture for free from Neil's lovely aunt. So this is our first real foray into furniture buying and I am really nervous about getting things I love. Because lets face it- furniture is ridiculously expensive and we will be stuck with what I choose now for 10 years. So I welcome all advice :) Eventually I want to do the living room in colors similar to this bedding collection but with some deeper hues of purple and brown.

Cute house! Check out craigslist for furniture. Yes, some of it is used, but I have gotten some amazing deals on really expensive nice furniture for a fraction of the cost just because some random rich people wanted to redecorate and bought all new furniture. Plus, then if you decide in 5 years that you don't like it anymore, you don't feel guilty at all about buying new stuff since you got such a great deal on the stuff you already own (especially if you then turn it around and sell it on craigslist to someone else)! What can I say, the Mexican in me loves a good bargain!
