Yummy, yummies!

A few months ago some of my friends started a recipe club. It started with just a few of us. One person was assigned to appetizer, two to a side, one to salad, one to dessert and the hostess would provide the entree. This monthly club is quickly becoming my favorite social event, great gossip and great eats. But our numbers have about tripled and I am afraid my apartment is too small to accommodate the billion kids plus moms as my turn rolls around. Anyway, today I was assigned a dessert. This proved to be a bit of a problem. You see as I preheated my oven a vast amount of smoke filled my small kitchen. Baby Grace and I were forced to flee the room, with watering eyes, as our coughs echoed from wall to wall. Well, necessity is the mother of invention so I figured I would have to make some sort of no bake concoction. So at about 10:45 last night I sent Neil to the store with a list of items for a recipe. When he returned not only did Neil have the ingredients for my spiderweb cheesecake (thanks Martha) but he also had a large bag from McDonalds. Now anyone who really knows me knows I have a weakness for the golden arches. There is just something about crispy fries and a low grade cheeseburger that can turn a frown upside down. So Neil and I stay up until the wee hours of the morn feasting and cooking. Our night was filled with excitement. For example the first Oreo crust I made, I dropped on the floor and had to begin all over again. (Thanks Neil for de-creaming that second batch of Oreos) It was also a night of first- I had never before made ganache. All in all it was the most enjoyable evening I've had in a while with my husband. I guess when Neil gets home for work we are often too tired or preoccupied or plain busy to just step back relax and enjoy one another's company. And I must admit Baby G teething has zapped a bit of the fun out of things. Now she is on tooth #6. Sadly, after our late night cooking we had to pay the Piper when Grace woke up at 6AM. But I have been reminded that I don't need to be so intent on getting things done, it is ok to relax and enjoy our moments together as a family. Sometimes the only item on my agenda should be fun. Well enough introspection, the cheese cake turned out pretty tasty and I can't wait for next month!

that is such a FUN idea! I wanna copy you! Do your apartments have a clubhouse? That might work better than your small apartment.

By the way, you never posted about the results of the hurricane--any damage to your place (besides food in the fridge)?

Good idea with the club house. We were really lucky with the hurricane because we didn't have any damage. Some friends in our apartment complex had water damage but that was it- we were safe on the second floor.
